HENDERSON

A Texas Main Street City named after the first governor of the State of Texas, James Pickney Henderson. With a National Register Historic District, the downtown square is one of the most picturesque in the East Texas area. Colorful canvas awnings highlight the historic buildings and offer shade to shoppers browsing the antique, custom jewelry, up scales clothing stores and eateries.

The restored “Opera House” is home to the Henderson Civic Theatre which produces several the Theatrical productions each year. Henderson is also a designated 2011 National Main Street City.  You will find the city to be full of southern hospitality. Henderson is located in the  “Heart of East Texas” in the county seat of Rusk County. History comes alive with the Downtown Walking Tour.

The City of Henderson and the Depot Museum produce the “Sweetest Festival in Texas”, the Heritage Syrup Festival, always the second Saturday in November. The Depot Museum is a history museum located on 7 acres with 11 restored buildings that are really a joy to see.
